If you have ever been to Seattle, there is one Washington State attraction that is beloved by some and disgusting to others. It might be in some people's eyes, the most overrated attraction in Washington State.

Pike Place Market in Seattle draws million and million of tourists every year but there is one attraction that seems polarizing to some and overrated to others.

I've been there a few times and I didn't mind it but my wife thought it was disgusting. It might be disgusting but it's responsible for thousands and thousands of pictures on social media yearly.

The Gum Wall Was Cleaned In 2015 But Tourists Keep Adding More And More Gum

It's the Gum Wall, located on Post Alley near Pike Street under the Pike Place Market. 

You might think the Gum Wall has been around for decades and decades but it became a thing in the early 1990s.

The origin of the Gum Wall stems from the Market Theater where patrons and performers would stick a piece of gum on the wall with a penny in the middle of it.

Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority removed the pennies and then attempted to remove the gum but was met with resistance. The Gum Wall was saved and deemed a tourist attraction in 1999. 

In 2015, the Gum Wall was cleaned but sure enough, gum started accumulating again and still remains a major tourist attraction for Seattle and the Pike Place Market.

The Gum Wall has been voted one of the "germiest" attractions in the world second only to the Blarney Stone in Ireland. People argue that the wall creates litter and attracts rats.

If you ask my wife, it's an overrated attraction but if you ask me, it's a work of art.
