One Person Killed Another Injured in Lateral A Road Crash
One person was killed and another injured in a crash on Thursday in the 1300 bock of Lateral A Road after the car the victim was riding in was rear ended as the driver attempted to turn into a local orchard.
Deputies say the passenger died at the scene of the crash
Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the crash at about 5:50 am Thursday. When they arrived Deputies found a 2005 Toyota Corolla had been rear-ended by a 2004 Ford F250. Deputies say the crash happened as both vehicles were driving north on Lateral A Road. They say the driver of the Ford failed to see the stopped Toyota until the last moment. A press release says the Toyota had severe damage after it was struck while waiting to make a left turn into a nearby orchard. The Ford suffered front end damage from the impact and was pushed into a nearby canal. Deputies say a passenger in the Toyota, 40-year-old Marisol Chavez of Wapato, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota suffered severe injuries from the collision and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Ford was not injured.
Deputies say both occupants of the Toyota were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The investigation continues Today. Officials say as the harvest continues in the Yakima Valley drivers need to pay attention especially when driving in rural roads where orchard traffic and equipment are traveling and working.
