It took a little more than an hour for the fire crews to douse the flames.  All residents but one elderly woman were able to escape unassisted.  Firefighters were able to help the elderly resident to safety.

The apartment complex did not have a fire sprinkler system and because of the age of the building, it was not required to have one.  The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office will lead the investigation as to the cause of the blaze.

Volunteers from the Red Cross assisted three of the displaced residents.  Fire officials recommend that you test your smoke alarms and make sure you have a home fire escape plan in place.  You never know how much time you will, or will not, have if a fire happens to you.
