When the State Supreme Court struck down drug possession in 2021, the legislature passed a temporary stop-gap bill making it a misdemeanor, but that law expires July 1st.
The Washington State passed a bill Friday that would make the possession and use of hard drugs a gross misdemeanor and give courts more leverage to compel an individual to enter and successfully complete treatment programs for their substance abuse.
A bill introduced in the Washington State Senate looks to address the lingering issues from the Washington State Supreme Court's Blake decision and the temporary fix the State Legislature made last session that expired July 1st or this year.
