The Yakima Valley Special Investigative Unit is now investigating a shooting in Sunnyside that wounded a Sunnyside Police Officer on Monday. The officer, who has not been identified was shot in the neck but is expected to recover at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he's being treated today.

The suspect is being held in the Yakima County jail

The suspect, 43-year-old Alejandro Palomarez faces a charge of First Degree Assault in Yakima County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon. He's being held in the Yakima County jail. Officers were called to the 1400 block of South Eighth Street at about 8:00 pm Monday for a call of shots fired. When police arrived they found the suspect firing shots inside his home and into the street and that's when the officer was hit in the neck by a bullet.

The investigation continues today

The suspect, Palomarez then fled the home and was eventually arrested after police used nonlethal foam bullets to stop him and take him into custody. No shots were fired by any officers in the incident as the investigation continues.
